Head of Production
MacGregor Black is partnering with a global manufacturer of technical protective clothing on the search for a Head of Production based in Doncaster, UK.
This is a business built on a reputation for safety-critical, high-performance garments used by professionals across more than 80 countries. The Head of Production operates as second in command to the Director of Manufacturing, taking full, independent ownership of production delivery across a network of 9–10 international manufacturing partners. This is a senior, autonomous leadership role — you will be trusted to run the operation without hand-holding, driving strategic projects, supplier performance and cross-functional delivery at pace.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end manufacturing delivery across multiple product categories, international manufacturing partners and raw material supply chains
- Act as second in command to the Director of Manufacturing, deputising fully in their absence
- Lead and execute strategic manufacturing projects and quarterly sprints
- Build and manage senior-level relationships with manufacturing partners and suppliers, driving performance, quality and on-time delivery
- Drive cross-functional collaboration and alignment across Supply Chain, Product Development, Quality and Operations
- Lead onboarding and capability assessment of new manufacturing and supply chain partners
- Hold ultimate accountability for product quality and standards being upheld consistently across the supply chain
- Manage and develop the Production Administrator, who reports directly into this role, supporting production coordination and administration
- Operate with full autonomy across a portfolio of 9–10 international factories, resolving issues and making judgment calls independently

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For
- Significant senior experience in apparel, technical workwear or performance clothing production/manufacturing, ideally at Production Manager level or above
- Proven track record independently managing multiple (8+) international manufacturing partners at scale, without close supervision
- Comfortable operating in a smaller, closer-knit business structure rather than a large corporate manufacturing environment — this is a hands-on, "second in command" role, not a layered corporate function
- Strong commercial and strategic judgement, able to balance quality, cost and delivery across a complex global supply chain
- Confident people manager, comfortable directly managing and developing a junior team member
- Background in PPE, technical workwear or performance clothing highly desirable
- Confident, credible leader able to represent the business directly with senior manufacturing partners
