We're looking for an experienced and hands-on Head of Production to lead our busy manufacturing operation in Royston.
Managing 50+ employees across three shift patterns, you'll be responsible for ensuring production is safe, efficient, cost-effective and delivered to the highest quality standards. You'll also play a key role in developing our people and driving a culture of continuous improvement.
Salary: Up to £60,000 DOE
Responsibilities
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop a production team of 50+ employees across three shift patterns.
- Plan and control production to ensure orders are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and reduce waste and downtime.
- Manage staffing, recruitment, training, development, performance and attendance.
- Monitor production performance and use data to identify issues and implement solutions.
- Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental standards are maintained and drive risk-reduction activities.
- Work closely with the Site Director and wider management team to resolve operational issues and improve processes.
- Provide technical support to the production team and support equipment maintenance and improvement.
- Maintain production reports and ensure clear communication of targets, standards and performance.
- Promote a positive team culture, high standards and a strong focus on quality and customer service.

Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Job Requirements
- At least 5 years' experience in production or operations management, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience of shop-floor management and leading large, diverse teams.
- Strong track record of training, mentoring and developing employees.
- Experience implementing Lean, 5S and continuous improvement techniques.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Confident using data and production systems to drive performance and make decisions.
- Technically minded, with strong independent decision-making skills.
- Experience working within ISO 9001; PS9000 and BRC knowledge would be desirable.
- Strong IT skills, including Excel and production/reporting software.
- Experience within the label or printing industry would be highly desirable.
- Knowledge of UV Flexo, screen printing, hot/cold foil, digital printing and converting would be advantageous.
