Why HSBC
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
As Head of Production for Finance, Traded Risk and Supervision IT you’ll own governance, control and operational excellence across the production estate for FSTR Technology. You’ll be a key point of accountability for infrastructure performance, stability and risk and control across a cross-asset technology landscape. With regular engagement at very senior levels across Business and Technology you’ll set clear expectations on incident management, service disciplines and follow-through. Success means fewer business-impacting incidents, faster recovery when issues occur and stronger long-term fixes through effective problem management. You’ll also strengthen reporting and insight so teams can focus effort where it improves service performance and resiliency most.
What you'll be doing
- Own production governance and operational oversight across the FSTR Technology production estate
- Oversee incident response and lifecycle management with clear, timely communication to business partners
- Manage escalation and decision-making support during production incidents for key stakeholders
- Chair incident review meetings and production reviews with key business stakeholders
- Embed problem management follow-up for business-impacting incidents to secure root cause and long-term fixes
- Ensure production service processes align to Service Management controls with ongoing monitoring of disciplines
- Chair data governance review sessions and ensure strong operational oversight across the production estate
- Devise analysis and reporting to identify trends and hotspots including balanced scorecards, monthly production reviews and RTB cost analysis
- Build continual improvement into day-to-day operations to strengthen service performance and resiliency
- Coordinate infrastructure delivery and performance across value streams in partnership with internal and external technology teams and HSBC infrastructure groups

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
