Head of Property and Sustainability
We're looking for an exceptional Head of Property and Sustainability to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our Head of Property and Sustainability, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work. Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 32 hours per week and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share. Your world of expertise
You will be a member of the Property Management Capability within the Enabling Domain reporting to Associate Director Commercial and Property, you will provide strategic professional leadership, build and manage a strong Property Management Team with the right behaviours, skill and knowledge to support the delivery of the corporate strategy and long term aims of the Met Office.

- Facilities, engineering, compliance and workplace services
- Sustainability and Net Zero delivery
- Commercial and financial stewardship
- Professional capability and workshop development
- Member of the Government Property Community

As our Head of Property and Sustainability, your total reward package will be up to £92,816 annually, which includes:
- £66,953 base pay
- An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
- Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
Essential criteria, skills and experience
- Keep evolving - You will bring experience of building long-term operational resilience across a complex property portfolio, including lifecycle planning for facilities and assets. You will be confident managing budgets, applying strong financial control and developing clear business cases that support informed investment decisions.
- Better together - You will lead and enable a professional property team to provide trusted expertise, practical guidance, robust analysis and effective controls. Your work will help the organisation deliver safely, efficiently and in full compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
- Sustainability leadership - You will provide visible and consistent leadership on sustainability, helping shape property decisions that support the organisation's Net Zero ambitions and wider environmental responsibilities.
- Developing the profession - You will have a strong track record of developing, coaching and supporting colleagues within the property profession, and will be ready to act as Head of Profession by setting standards, building capability and championing professional excellence.
- Live and breathe it - You will be an inclusive and values-led leader who puts purpose, people and sound judgement at the centre of decision-making, creating the conditions for teams to perform well and feel supported.
- Stakeholder engagement - You will be able to build credibility with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, offering assurance, constructive challenge and expert advice on property matters that affect organisational delivery.
