Head of Proportional Treaty Underwriting
Location: London, United Kingdom or Paris, France
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a fast-growing international reinsurance platform as it continues to expand its presence in the London Market. This is a rare chance to take on a genuine leadership role with significant autonomy, helping to build and shape a profitable proportional treaty portfolio from the ground up. You'll play a pivotal role in establishing the underwriting strategy, developing key broker relationships and contributing to the long-term growth of a dynamic international business. If you're looking for a position where you can make a tangible commercial impact rather than simply manage an existing portfolio, this could be the ideal next step.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, underwrite and manage a profitable portfolio of proportional treaty business across a broad range of Personal Lines, Commercial and Specialty classes (excluding Motor and Health).
- Build and strengthen long-term relationships with London Market brokers, cedants and key market stakeholders.
- Analyse treaty submissions, assess portfolio performance and make commercially sound underwriting decisions.
- Negotiate treaty structures, pricing, commissions and contractual terms.
- Monitor portfolio profitability and recommend underwriting actions where appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with Actuarial, Finance and Risk teams to ensure robust portfolio management and reporting.
- Contribute to underwriting strategy, market expansion and long-term business growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
