Head of Protection Intermediary Distribution
Location: Remote with travel across the UK.
Hours: Full-time
This opportunity goes beyond a typical senior sales role. It involves heading a major growth channel for Scottish Widows, expanding our presence in the protection market, and assisting more clients in securing their financial future. Lloyds Banking Group serves 26 million customers, yet fewer than 10% own an Insurance, Pension or Investment product with us. Across the UK, half of mortgage holders lack life cover and 9 in 10 people remain without critical illness cover. The potential to drive meaningful change is substantial.
Reporting to the Protection Director, you'll be setting the direction for intermediary distribution and translating ambition into a clear commercial strategy. Leadership will be demonstrated by guiding the team and partners toward common goals. Decision-making, prioritising opportunities, questioning existing approaches, and building relationships to grow a profitable, sustainable business are key responsibilities.
You'll be a recognised leader in the market and within Scottish Widows and will represent our Protection business with principal intermediary firms, guide proposition and distribution selections, and set the stage for the team to deliver their best.
Your mandate
- Own and deliver the intermediary distribution strategy, with clear accountability for profitable growth, quality, persistency, and market share.
- Shape the agenda, not simply complete it. Identify where we should compete, where we should invest, and which opportunities will create the greatest customer and commercial value.
- Build and lead strategic relationships with the UK's major protection intermediary businesses, securing stronger partnerships and panel positions where appropriate.
- Develop new distribution frameworks and market routes, collaborating closely with Halifax Intermediaries and other areas within Lloyds Banking Group.
- Use insight and management information to spot opportunities, make confident trade-offs, and intervene early where performance is off track.
- Lead service recovery and complex partner issues, protecting customer outcomes, relationships, and our commercial interests.
- Influence proposition, pricing, service, and technology priorities by bringing a clear market and adviser perspective into Scottish Widows.
- Create a high-performing, commercially curious team that understands the strategy, owns outcomes, and has the confidence to act.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
