This role will be based in London Farringdon, EC1A 1AA, on a hybrid working basis. However, there will be regular travel to sites across the UK in line with business needs.
Royal Mail is undergoing a significant transformation as we modernise our operations and secure the long-term future of the UK's largest delivery network.
As one of the nation's most iconic organisations, we connect people, communities and businesses across the UK every day. To support this journey, we are looking for a highly motivated, politically astute and commercially aware Head of Public Affairs to join our Corporate Affairs & Policy team.
This is an opportunity to shape policy, lead strategic campaigns and build relationships with key decision-makers across government, regulation and industry.
About The Role
Reporting to the Director of External Affairs & Policy, you will lead the development and delivery of Royal Mail's public affairs strategy, working across the business and with senior stakeholders to support our policy, regulatory and reputation objectives.
A key focus will be securing legislative and regulatory change to create a fairer and more competitive delivery market, including driving Royal Mail's ambition to establish a more level playing field across the sector. You will also support activity relating to business transformation, sustainability, pensions, business rates reform and the future of the Universal Service.
Working across Westminster, the devolved administrations and the wider stakeholder landscape, you will help shape engagement strategies that support Royal Mail's priorities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
