About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and forward-thinking Head of Quality to lead quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across our care home services. This is a key leadership role for an individual who is passionate about delivering safe, effective, compassionate, and person-centred care. You will provide strategic oversight and practical support to ensure our services meet the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), comply with relevant legislation, and consistently achieve high standards of care and resident experience.
Working closely with senior leadership, operational managers, and registered managers, you will drive a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement, ensuring that quality is embedded in every aspect of service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance and CQC Compliance
- Lead and oversee quality assurance systems across our care homes, ensuring compliance with CQC regulations, fundamental standards, and relevant legislation.
- Develop, implement, and monitor quality policies, procedures, audit programmes, and compliance frameworks.
- Conduct regular quality visits, audits, service reviews, and compliance assessments to identify risks, address shortfalls, and promote best practice.
- Support care homes in preparing for CQC inspections and ensure that evidence of compliance and improvement is accurate, accessible, and up to date.
- Monitor regulatory action plans and work with registered managers to achieve sustainable improvements.
Clinical Governance and Resident Safety
- Oversee quality governance arrangements, ensuring effective monitoring of care standards, clinical risks, and resident outcomes.
- Monitor key areas including medication management, falls prevention, pressure area care, nutrition and hydration, infection prevention and control, and safeguarding.
- Oversee the investigation of incidents, accidents, complaints, and safeguarding concerns, ensuring appropriate actions are taken and lessons are learned.
- Promote compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005, consent requirements, duty of candour, and relevant safeguarding legislation.
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments, and resident records reflect individual needs, choices, preferences, and assessed risks.

Continuous Improvement and Performance Management
- Develop and lead a structured quality improvement programme across the organisation.
- Analyse audit results, complaints, incidents, feedback, and performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Develop and monitor corrective and preventive action plans, ensuring actions are completed within agreed timescales.
- Work collaboratively with registered managers and operational leaders to improve service performance and maintain consistent standards.
- Produce quality reports and present findings, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
Leadership and Staff Development
- Provide expert guidance and support to registered managers and care home leadership teams on quality, compliance, governance, and risk management.
- Promote a positive culture of openness, accountability, safeguarding, and continuous learning.
- Identify training needs and support initiatives that improve staff knowledge, competence, and quality of care.
- Encourage effective engagement with residents, relatives, representatives, and external professionals to improve care experiences and outcomes.
About You
You will be a confident and credible quality leader with the knowledge, experience, and interpersonal skills required to influence practice, challenge poor standards constructively, and deliver measurable improvements across care services.
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience in a senior quality assurance, compliance, clinical governance, or operational leadership role within adult social care.
- Strong working knowledge of CQC regulations, fundamental standards, and the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.
- Proven experience of conducting audits, identifying compliance gaps, and implementing effective improvement plans.
- A sound understanding of safeguarding, incident investigation, risk management, complaints handling, and duty of candour.
- Experience supporting registered managers and care home teams to improve service quality and regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret quality data, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions.
- Excellent communication, leadership, influencing, and report-writing skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and maintain oversight of quality risks across multiple services.
- A genuine commitment to dignity, respect, safeguarding, and person-centred care.
- A relevant qualification in health and social care, nursing, quality management, clinical governance, or a related discipline is desirable. Additional qualifications in auditing, quality improvement, or leadership would be advantageous.
