Vidispine GmbH is a solutions integrator delivering media and broadcast technologies worldwide, including cloud-based media platforms and broadcast management systems.
The Role
The Head of R&D leads the overall engineering organization, shaping the direction of product development, technology strategy, and operational practices. This role works closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to support delivery of scalable, reliable, and innovative products.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to and guide the long-term R&D strategy, technology direction, and product evolution
- Support development of architecture principles and technology roadmaps
- Lead and develop engineering leadership teams across multiple disciplines
- Help guide organizational evolution, including modernization initiatives and delivery practices
Engineering & Product Delivery
- Oversee delivery across product lines, supporting consistent quality and performance
- Guide planning, prioritization, and release processes across R&D
- Support tracking and improvement of key delivery metrics (e.g., quality, predictability, system health)
- Contribute to strategies for maintaining and improving existing systems, including technical debt management

Organizational Development
- Support the design of team structures, career development frameworks, and capability growth
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and learning-oriented engineering culture
- Contribute to talent development, mentoring, and succession planning
- Participate in leadership discussions on performance, priorities, and risks
Operational & Financial Contribution
- Contribute to R&D planning, including budget and investment discussions
- Support balanced prioritization of new development and ongoing maintenance
- Help monitor and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of engineering operations
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Operations, Support, and Professional Services teams to align objectives
- Support communication and collaboration across teams and regions
- Represent engineering in internal and external discussions where needed
What You Bring
Experience
- Experience leading engineering teams or multiple technical functions
- Experience working with software development, system integration, or cloud-based environments
- Experience contributing to technical strategy, platform evolution, or modernization initiatives
- Experience working in distributed or international teams is helpful

Skills
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution
- Experience supporting technology roadmaps and product development planning
- Familiarity with modern architectures, including cloud-native and service-based systems
- Ability to work with stakeholders across technical and non-technical domains
- Strong communication skills across different audiences
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Relevant leadership experience in engineering or R&D environments
