Referment is working with an established regional law firm that advises individuals, families and businesses across a broad range of legal matters. The firm is looking for an experienced residential conveyancing leader to manage its residential property department across several offices.
This is a department-wide leadership position rather than a fee-earning role with a personal caseload. You will set the direction of the practice, manage its people and resources, and help the team deliver its commercial and service objectives. The role is based in Peterborough and involves regular travel to meet conveyancing teams at the firm’s other offices.
The Role
- Set and deliver the residential property department’s strategic objectives.
- Direct the department’s workload, people and resources across multiple offices.
- Support junior colleagues’ development and help them build their technical and professional capabilities.
- Use relevant performance measures to monitor delivery and keep the department focused on its strategic goals.
- Build effective relationships across the firm and work alongside the business development team to generate opportunities.

What We're Looking For
- Substantial residential conveyancing knowledge gained within an SRA-regulated law firm.
- Proven management experience and the confidence to lead and motivate an established team.
- Strong commercial judgement, with experience translating departmental objectives into measurable delivery.
- Clear communication and the ability to build productive internal and external relationships.
- A genuine interest in developing people and improving a multi-office practice.

Relevant Desirable Experience
- Experience leading a conveyancing department across more than one location, working with KPIs and contributing to business development would be particularly useful.
This could suit an existing Head of Conveyancing, Residential Property Partner or senior conveyancing manager who wants to concentrate on departmental leadership, people development and commercial performance rather than maintaining an individual caseload.
