The role

The Head of Risk is responsible for shaping and leading SSE's strategic and enterprise risk agenda, providing the Board and Executive Team with an integrated, forward-looking and insight-led view of the Group's risk landscape, resilience and emerging opportunities.

The role champions the Enterprise Risk Management Framework across the organisation, ensuring that risk considerations are embedded within strategic decision-making, investment planning and business operations. By fostering a mature and consistent approach to risk management, the Head of Risk enables informed decisions that support sustainable growth and long-term value creation.

Working closely with senior leaders across the business, the role develops data-driven risk intelligence, quantitative risk modelling, scenario analysis and risk appetite frameworks that strengthen decision-making, enhance organisational resilience and support SSE in navigating an evolving external environment with confidence.

The Head of Risk is accountable for leading SSE's risk governance arrangements and ensuring the Group meets its statutory, regulatory and corporate governance obligations relating to risk management, internal controls, principal risk reporting, horizon scanning, resilience and viability assessments.

As a trusted advisor to the Executive Team and Board, the role builds strong partnerships across Group Strategy, Corporate Finance and Energy Economics, providing valuable risk insights that support strategy development, capital allocation and long-term planning.

The role also works collaboratively with colleagues across Crisis Management, Business Continuity and Cyber Security to strengthen organisational resilience, embed best practice and ensure SSE remains well positioned to respond to emerging risks and future challenges.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
