Head of Risk
Financial Services
12-month FTC with view to permanent
Predominantly remote
An established and growing UK financial services business is looking to appoint a Head of Risk to lead and further develop its in-house Risk function.
This is a broad, autonomous role with significant exposure to senior leadership. Reporting into the senior Risk leadership structure and working closely with the CFO, you will take ownership of the Group's Risk agenda and play a key role in strengthening the organisation's risk framework as the business continues to grow.
The organisation is particularly focused on technology risk, cyber, information security, and operational resilience, alongside wider enterprise, operational, and prudential risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Group Risk Management Framework, policies, appetite, and governance.
- Provide effective second-line challenge across enterprise, operational, financial, and prudential risk.
- Lead oversight of technology risk, cyber, information security, and operational resilience.
- Support the CRO with ORSA, prudential risk, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner closely with Finance on financial reporting controls, regulatory reporting, and risk matters.
- Provide clear, forward-looking risk insight to senior management and the Board.
- Lead and develop a small Risk team, embedding a proactive and commercially focused risk culture.
- Identify areas for improvement and, importantly, drive the implementation of practical solutions across the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You
- Experienced Risk professional operating at Senior Manager or Head of Risk level within a regulated financial services environment.
- Experience within insurance would be advantageous, particularly exposure to Solvency II, ORSA, and prudential risk, although candidates from broader regulated financial services backgrounds will also be considered.
- Strong experience across operational risk, technology risk, cyber, and/or operational resilience, combined with the ability to operate across the wider enterprise risk agenda.
- Commercial, pragmatic, and execution-focused: able to identify risks, challenge senior stakeholders, and then work with the business to implement meaningful improvements.

The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Risk Manager looking to step into a genuine Head of Risk position, with significant autonomy and visibility across the organisation.
- Close exposure to the CFO and senior leadership team, with the opportunity to shape and mature the Risk function rather than simply operate within an established framework.
- The position is predominantly remote, with attendance in the office expected approximately once or twice a month for key Board meetings.
- 12-month FTC with a view to permanent
