Head of Risk - Private Bank

Excellent opportunity opens for a broadly skilled Head of Risk/Deputy Chief Risk Officer to join a growing European Private Bank’s London Branch. This is a senior leadership position with broad responsibility for the UK Risk function, working closely with the Board, CEO, senior management and Group Risk to ensure the business operates within its defined risk appetite and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a key point of contact for FCA and PRA risk management matters, supporting the bank’s regulatory relationships and ensuring compliance with UK regulatory expectations.
  • Work closely with Group CRO, ensuring the UK risk framework remains aligned with Group policies, risk appetite and governance structures.
  • Provide senior oversight of the Second Line of Defence risk function, with broad responsibility for the UK risk framework and risk management activities.
  • Oversee the Risk Appetite Framework, ensuring appropriate limits, monitoring, escalation and reporting are in place.
  • Lead and oversee the UK ICAAP and ILAAP processes, including stress testing, scenario analysis, capital and liquidity risk assessments and regulatory submissions.
  • Provide oversight of the identification, assessment and management of key risks across the UK business, ensuring material exposures and emerging risks are appropriately identified and addressed.
  • Provide regular risk reporting and assurance to the Board, CEO and Group Risk, covering key risk exposures, emerging risks, risk appetite and regulatory developments.
  • Ensure UK risk policies, frameworks and governance arrangements remain appropriate for the size and complexity of the business and aligned with FCA/PRA requirements.
  • Support the implementation of Group-wide risk initiatives within the UK entity, ensuring they are appropriately adapted to the local regulatory environment.
  • Maintain effective risk governance, including participation in relevant UK & Group risk committees and senior management forums.
  • Drive a strong risk culture across the organisation, providing appropriate challenge and guidance to senior stakeholders and business leadership.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
