Head of School
The role of Head of School is to work with and support the NHS England Postgraduate Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHS England mandate.
Key Responsibilities
- Professionally and managerially accountable to the Postgraduate Dean.
- Focus on improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.
- Role evolving to focus on whole workforce transformation, developing multi-professional links, innovative ways of curriculum delivery, and workforce well-being strategies.
- Support the Postgraduate Dean by working across health and, where relevant, social care, within the context of a team, so that the provision of education reflects changing service models.

Role Challenges
- Leading the School and Education Providers to deliver the changing curricula in an evolving service landscape.
- All senior clinicians within NHS England may have wider roles and projects as agreed with the Postgraduate Dean.

Important Information
- In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.
- If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR).
- Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.
