Summary
The Head of Schools Admissions Service is a pivotal role responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational management of the Schools Admissions Team within a local authority. This position ensures the delivery of a high-quality, legally compliant, and customer-focused admissions service. The role involves leading the development and implementation of school admissions policies, managing statutory admissions processes, handling appeals, and planning school places. The postholder will ensure the local authority fulfills its statutory obligations and facilitates access to education for all children.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Schools Admissions Service to ensure the effective delivery of all statutory admissions functions.
- Develop, implement, and review admissions policies in accordance with current legislation, the School Admissions Code, and Department for Education guidance.
- Oversee the annual admissions cycle, coordinating primary and secondary school admissions rounds.
- Provide strategic advice and guidance to senior leadership, elected members, schools, and external stakeholders on admissions matters.
- Manage school admission appeals, in-year admissions, fair access protocols, and waiting lists.
- Lead on school place planning and sufficiency, collaborating closely with education planning and commissioning teams.

Requirements:
- Significant experience in leading a Schools Admissions Service within a Local Authority.
- Previous experience at a Head of Service, Service Manager, or equivalent senior leadership level.
- Extensive knowledge of the School Admissions Code, School Admission Appeals Code, and relevant education legislation.
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
- Relevant professional qualification in Education, Public Administration, Management, or a related discipline.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.

- Contract duration: 3 months
- Rate: £39.99 per hour umbrella
- Working hours: 36 hours per week
- Location: 5 Pancras Square, London, Camden, N1C 4AG, United Kingdom
- Work pattern: To be confirmed
- Payment schedule: Bi-weekly
