Head of Seafood Industry Resilience
Hybrid, with offices in Edinburgh and Grimsby (national travel required)
Seafish is a non-departmental public body that supports a thriving fisheries and seafood industry across the UK, from catch to consumption. It works in partnership with industry and the 4 governments to provide insight, services and leadership for a safe, responsible and resilient seafood system.
Seafish is seeking a Head of Seafood Industry Resilience who is passionate about the seafood sector and determined to help it thrive for the long term. You will lead and drive forward work that helps seafood businesses across the UK reduce risk, maintain continuity and recover more quickly from disruption, turning sector expertise and evidence into coordinated action that strengthens the resilience and future viability of the UK seafood supply chain.
The role
Working alongside Seafish's strategic enabling Insights, Data and Stakeholder Engagement teams, you will turn evidence, intelligence and stakeholder feedback into targeted programmes, practical interventions and collaborative action. Your leadership will help seafood businesses anticipate disruption, remove barriers, protect continuity of supply and strengthen long-term resilience and profitability across the UK seafood supply chain.
Key priorities
- Lead the resilient UK supply chain workstream, delivering agreed outcomes and demonstrable benefits for seafood businesses in line with Seafish's Annual Plan 2026/27 and organisational priorities.
- Provide authoritative advice on fish stock sustainability, seafood supply chains and practical industry operations to strengthen decision-making across catching, shellfish, processing, distribution and markets.
- Design and deliver preventative strategies and practical interventions that reduce exposure to disruption, strengthen business preparedness and protect continuity of supply.
- Build effective partnerships across industry, governments, NGOs and seafood businesses to identify emerging pressures early and mobilise coordinated responses across the supply chain.
- Convene, lead and drive forward stakeholder groups that turn diverse perspectives into shared priorities, remove barriers and accelerate solutions to supply-chain resilience challenges.
- Represent Seafish nationally as a credible senior voice, influencing policy, market and operational responses that strengthen seafood supply-chain resilience.
- Build and lead a high-performing specialist team with the capability, focus and accountability to deliver sustained sector impact.

What we are looking for
We are looking for someone with strong practical experience and credibility in the seafood sector, rather than a particular number of years served or a conventional career path. You may already be an established leader or be ready to take the next step in your career. What matters is your record of solving complex problems, your ability to bring people with you, your leadership potential and your commitment to delivering demonstrable benefits for seafood businesses and supply chains.
Experience
- Strong practical knowledge of the seafood sector, including fish stock sustainability, supply chains, catching, shellfish, processing and wider industry operations, with the ability to apply that knowledge to unfamiliar and complex challenges
- Strong understanding of the UK seafood supply chain and the commercial, regulatory, environmental and market pressures affecting it
- Credibility with seafood industry stakeholders, with established relationships across industry, government, NGOs and supply chain partners
- Proven ability to convene and lead stakeholder groups that align competing interests, agree shared priorities and deliver solutions to complex cross-sector challenges
- Ability to identify disruption risks and develop preventative, practical strategies that support business continuity
- Evidence of effective leadership or clear potential to lead at this level, including building specialist capability, setting clear outcomes and delivering sustained results through others
- Sound judgement and political awareness, with the ability to operate effectively in a complex stakeholder environment
- Genuine enthusiasm for the seafood sector, a strong belief in its future and the curiosity and learning agility to build knowledge, challenge assumptions and find new solutions.

Experience working with or within public bodies, government, NGOs or industry-wide partnerships would be valuable. Equally important is the credibility to influence at national level, build trusted relationships quickly and turn those relationships into coordinated action across a complex stakeholder landscape.
