Head of Security Engineering

Fully Remote (Monthly Meet Ups)
Up to £110,000 + Benefits

This is an opportunity to lead security engineering within a security-focused software organisation where secure development is central to the business. You will have ownership of product security strategy, influence senior leadership, and help shape the responsible adoption of AI across the software development lifecycle.

The Company

They are an established technology organisation developing software products for highly security-conscious customers. Their teams place security at the centre of product development and continue to invest heavily in secure engineering practices, innovation, and emerging technologies. You will join a collaborative environment where security, engineering, and product teams work closely together to deliver secure and scalable solutions.

The Role

  • Own and drive the organisation's product security strategy and security engineering roadmap.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of DevSecOps and Software Assurance professionals.
  • Define and embed secure development practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Own threat modelling, security assessments, penetration testing, and vulnerability management activities.
  • Oversee supply chain security, software bill of materials reporting, and third-party dependency risk.
  • Manage and optimise security tooling across SAST, DAST, SCA, and CI/CD environments.
  • Lead security incident response activities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Shape the secure adoption of AI and agent-based technologies across engineering and security workflows.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and leadership teams to balance security, delivery, and business objectives.
  • Represent security initiatives with customers, auditors, and external stakeholders where required.

Your Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience leading Application Security or DevSecOps functions within a software product environment.
  • Proven ability to build, mature, and scale security engineering practices.
  • Deep expertise in application security, threat modelling, penetration testing, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Strong hands-on experience with security tooling, including SAST, DAST, and SCA platforms.
  • Experience securing CI/CD pipelines and embedding automated security controls.
  • Knowledge of supply chain security, software bill of materials management, and dependency risk.
  • Understanding of cloud security and modern software engineering environments.
  • Experience with AI security, AI-generated code governance, or agent-based security workflows.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A pragmatic, risk-based approach to balancing security requirements with business priorities.
