About the Role
As Head of SME Customer Service, you’ll play a key role in shaping how Business Stream delivers an outstanding experience for our small and medium-sized business customers.
You’ll help set the strategic direction for our multi-channel customer contact approach, while leading the operational delivery that brings it to life. From how customers choose to engage with us, to how we plan and resource our teams, you’ll make sure every part of the experience is joined up, efficient and focused on delivering great outcomes.
With accountability for our Resource & Planning team and the activities that support our wider operational areas, you’ll bring together customer demand, colleague capacity and business performance to make sure we’re ready to deliver when our customers need us.
You’ll lead and develop a team of over 20 Business Stream colleagues, creating an environment where people feel trusted, supported and empowered to do their best work. You’ll also lead our relationships with two outsourced partner teams, ensuring they share our commitment to customer service and deliver against the standards and performance measures we expect.
This is a role with real scope to make a difference. You’ll have the opportunity to shape our SME customer experience, improve the way we work and bring people and performance together to deliver customer service excellence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
