Head of Engineering | Path to CTO in 12 months | UK Remote | £100-120k + up to 0.75% equity

The company

UK transport authorities, councils, and consultancies run the country's roads on fragmented data from cameras, sensors, and roadside infrastructure. Nobody joins it up, so decisions that shape how millions move every day are made on incomplete information.

This company fuses that data into the operational intelligence layer for UK transport. Bus networks planned on live passenger flow, roadworks scheduled to cut congestion, highways monitored in real time.

Deployed with National Highways, Connect Plus, local councils, and consultancies including Systra, Jacobs, and Atkins.

Bootstrapped to £1M ARR and profitability before closing a £2.7M seed round. Targeting £5M ARR and Series A in the next 12-18 months.

The Head of Software Engineering role

You'll be joining to lead their existing team of 8 senior ICs into a sharper, faster function, holding architectural ownership from day one.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The expectation is that you will grow into the CTO role over the next 12-18 months as the function expands and the team scales beneath you.

This is a leadership role first. You'll set technical direction, own architecture, and build a function the team genuinely wants to follow, not just report into.

You stay close enough to the work to make sharp calls and earn credibility with senior engineers, but this isn't a role where you're expected to be deep in the codebase day to day.

You'll earn the CTO title in 12-18 months by hitting two clear triggers: demonstrated ownership the CEO can trust, and delivery against Series A and ARR targets.

Who this is for

  • You've led engineering through a real scaling arc at a B2B SaaS company, growing a function from a handful of engineers to 20-30 or more, with genuine hiring, structure, and delivery ownership across that growth.
  • You've operated as a manager other engineers want to work for. Team buy-in and trust are as important to this role as technical judgement.
  • You've built and owned systems where data volume, quality, and modelling are the product, not a side effect. Data platforms are your natural terrain.
  • You're genuinely enthusiastic about AI-assisted engineering, not just comfortable with it. You use AI coding tools in your own workflow because you want to, have real opinions on what works, and have driven adoption across a team with visible results.
