Role Overview
As Head of Software Engineering for our Personalisation and Post-Purchase domain, you'll lead the teams building experiences that make shopping with M&S feel more relevant, helpful and seamless. From personalised search and AI-powered recommendations to customer support journeys and chat experiences, you'll help shape products used by millions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop Engineering Managers across multiple product teams.
- Create an environment where engineers can do their best work.
- Partner with Product, Data Science and Delivery teams to turn business goals into great products.
- Help shape the technical direction of the domain and support long-term technology decisions.
- Improve the speed, quality and reliability of software delivery.
- Drive the use of AI and automation to help teams work more effectively.
- Support hiring, retention and career development across your organisation.
- Champion modern engineering practices, experimentation and continuous improvement.
Who We're Looking For
- An experienced engineering leader who has managed multiple teams through managers.
- A former hands-on software engineer with a strong technical background.
- Comfortable working across a range of technologies, architectures and cloud platforms.
- Experienced building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
- Passionate about software quality, reliability and customer outcomes.
- A strong communicator who can work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Someone who empowers teams, removes obstacles and creates clarity.
