What you’ll be doing
Essential Responsibilities

Business Planning:
- Work closely with the Chief Underwriting Officer, developing an annual business plan consistent with AXA XL’s overall underwriting strategies and objectives.
- Monitor objectives for financial, marketing, and client satisfaction success, providing guidance when trending against plan.

Strategic and Operational Objectives:
- Set and drive strategic and operational objectives that result in early “wins” for short-term success without jeopardizing annual or long-term goals.

Product Performance Monitoring:
- Leverage data tools, analytic reports, and underwriting’s central capabilities to monitor product performance, budgets, and forecasts.

Centers of Excellence:
- Collaborate with business line leaders to identify and develop centers of excellence among underwriters for specific industries.

New Product Development:
- Drive the new product development process in anticipation of market need.

Underwriting Excellence:
- Achieve business plan financial objectives and profitable growth as approved by senior management.
- Develop and implement strategic underwriting plans for the segment or region, aligned with current and long-term objectives.

Risk Selection and Pricing:
- Be an integral part of the underwriting process with a focus on risk selection, structure, and pricing.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Underwriting Governance to manage emerging risks and evolving trends.

Team Leadership and Development:
- Provide leadership to the team.
- Mentor and coach the underwriting team and develop a succession plan.

Product Management and Innovation:
- Support product management and innovation by developing analytical rigor, capabilities, and processes to achieve growth and profitability targets.

Strategic Relationships and Market Presence:
- Work with underwriting managers, sales, and regional leaders to achieve cross-selling objectives and develop marketing strategies.
- Develop new business opportunities via extensive broker and insured relationships.
- Support customer retention.

Collaboration and Partnerships:
- Partner with actuarial, accounting, claims, and finance to support underwriting strategies and service excellence.
- Assist in developing reinsurance strategies and managing limit accumulations to avoid earnings volatility while maximizing AXA XL's opportunities on placements.
- Partner with the Chief Risk Officer and others to implement best practices and internal controls to support enterprise risk management.

Distribution and Value Proposition:
- Develop and execute a focused effort targeting key distribution partners, marketing the merits of AXA XL’s value proposition.
- Lead with the value of a compelling partnership, demonstrating AXA XL’s ability to be viewed as a long-term player.
What you’ll bring
Required Abilities and Skills

Experience:
- Substantial experience focusing on underwriting management within Specialty.
- Experience building relationships with all the larger brokers and clients, with a focus on SME.
- A successful track record of driving profitable growth.
- An undergraduate degree is required; a master’s degree and/or professional insurance certification is preferred.

- A self-starter who will thrive in a team-oriented environment.
- A non-political player who can, by virtue of your background and experiences, be immediately credible with both internal and external constituents.
- Naturally collaborative, with the ability to influence without authority, motivate others, and be highly participative.

- Granular knowledge of all aspects of managing a market.
