Head of Strategic HR & Advisory

Location: Reading, Berkshire (Hybrid Working)
Salary: £72,998 - £90,256

Reading Borough Council is seeking an experienced HR leader to provide strategic direction and professional leadership across our HR Business Partnering and HR Advisory services. Reporting to the Director of HR & OD, you will be a key member of the senior HR leadership team, shaping workforce strategy, organisational transformation and people-related decision making across the Council.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead Strategic HR Business Partnering and HR Advisory services
  • Advise senior leaders and elected Members on complex workforce challenges
  • Shape and deliver workforce strategies aligned to organisational priorities
  • Lead organisational design, change and transformation activity
  • Provide oversight of complex employee relations and people risk
  • Build effective relationships with trade unions and stakeholders
  • Develop and lead high-performing HR teams
  • Deputise for the Director of HR & OD when required

About you

You will be an experienced HR leader with:

  • Significant experience advising senior leaders, boards or elected Members
  • A strong track record in organisational design, workforce planning and transformation
  • Extensive knowledge of employment law, governance and employee relations
  • Experience working within a large, complex organisation
  • Excellent influencing, leadership and relationship-building skills
  • Chartered CIPD membership (or equivalent)
