Head of Systems & Security

An international social impact consultancy is seeking a Head of Systems & Security to take ownership of its internal technology, systems, cybersecurity and governance function.

This is a permanent fully remote role within the UK, and salary guide is c£120K + 20% + benefits

This will suit someone who combines broad technology and systems leadership with strong cybersecurity, ISO 27001 and technology governance experience. You will need enough technical depth to effectively challenge vendors and MSPs, while being comfortable engaging with senior and Board-level stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the internal technology and systems roadmap across enterprise systems, infrastructure and platforms
  • Lead cybersecurity strategy, governance, technology risk and operational resilience
  • Own and manage ISO 27001 certification, audits, controls and ongoing compliance
  • Oversee key technology vendors, MSPs and outsourced service providers, ensuring appropriate technical, service and commercial performance
  • Lead technology change, systems improvement and modernisation initiatives
  • Ensure appropriate security controls, policies, access management and incident management processes are maintained
  • Act as Data Protection Officer (DPO) or take equivalent senior responsibility for data protection and privacy
  • Provide oversight of Data Operations, data governance and integration across internal systems
  • Lead and develop a small international team of technical specialists
  • Work closely with executive and Board-level stakeholders, communicating technology, security and data risks in clear business terms

  • Senior experience leading enterprise IT, systems, technology operations or infrastructure
  • Strong cybersecurity leadership and governance experience
  • Demonstrable ownership of ISO 27001 certification and audits
  • Strong experience managing technology vendors, MSPs and outsourced services
  • Strong technical credibility, with the ability to challenge vendors and technical teams where required
  • Experience across technology risk, governance and operational resilience
  • Strong data protection/privacy experience; DPO or equivalent responsibility would be highly advantageous
  • Excellent senior stakeholder management, including experience working with executive or Board-level stakeholders
  • Experience leading distributed technical teams, ideally within an international or professional-services environment
  • Comfortable operating strategically while remaining close to execution
  • An entrepreneurial and pragmatic mindset, comfortable working within an expanding and evolving organisation
