About The Role
We are looking for a Head of Talent & Careers to lead the continued development of BSI’s enterprise talent and careers strategy.
This role will shape how colleagues understand and take ownership of their careers, while creating the organisational structures, frameworks and practices needed for talent to move, develop and be deployed effectively across BSI.
Working closely with senior business and People leaders, you will lead our enterprise approach to career development, talent management and succession planning. You will help shape career pathways and associated role architecture, and targeted talent pipelines, ensuring BSI has the skills and leadership capability needed to deliver its future priorities.
This is an opportunity to influence talent strategy at an enterprise level, balancing long-term organisational thinking with the practical delivery of programmes that improve career opportunities, succession strength and internal movement.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape and deliver BSI’s enterprise talent, careers and internal progression strategy.
- Continue to develop BSI’s careers proposition, ensuring colleagues have clear access to career opportunities, resources and development support.
- Lead enterprise career engagement activities, including career campaigns, Careers Week and digital career channels.
- Maintain and improve the Careers Hub and associated Workday talent and careers functionality.
- Build colleague and manager capability to support meaningful career, development and succession conversations.
- Lead the Mid-Year Review process as a key enabler of career planning and colleague development.
- Define and embed practical careers and development approaches to increase internal mobility and the flexible deployment of talent.
- Shape role architecture, career pathways and skills frameworks that make movement between roles and functions easier.
- Identify and address structural, cultural and behavioural barriers to internal career progression.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to promote an internal-first approach to hiring and increase confidence in appointing high-potential colleagues into stretch opportunities.
- Support transformation programmes and organisation design by identifying the talent, career and succession implications of structural decisions.
- Develop approaches that improve internal appointments to critical roles and reduce reliance on external hiring where appropriate.
- Lead and evolve enterprise talent and succession processes, strengthening succession readiness and development planning.
- Provide the Board and Group Leadership Team with clear insight into talent risks, pipeline strength and succession coverage.
- Identify business-critical talent populations and develop targeted reskilling, upskilling and pipeline strategies.
- Shape targeted early careers and external social sustainability initiatives aligned to business needs and BSI’s purpose.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
