Group Head of Tax

The University of Warwick burst into life in the 60s with an innovative, collaborative and energetic approach, which continues to this day, quickly becoming a world-leading research-intensive university.

An opportunity exists for a Group Head of Tax to proactively lead a small but highly competent team through an evolving, and often complex workload to meet the changing needs of the university. Reporting to the Finance Director, this high-profile role will require a breadth of experience combined with a strong background of practical application and the capacity to embrace a collaborative approach. Having responsibility for the worldwide tax affairs of the University Group including playing a leading role in researching and implementing new university activities both in the UK and overseas, strategic development of the Tax Team and ensuring ongoing operational efficiency and compliance, influencing skills and a communicative approach will be essential to the success of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small but highly competent team through an evolving, and often complex workload to meet the changing needs of the university
  • Report to the Finance Director
  • Have responsibility for the worldwide tax affairs of the University Group
  • Play a leading role in researching and implementing new university activities both in the UK and overseas
  • Strategic development of the Tax Team
  • Ensure ongoing operational efficiency and compliance
  • Influence and communicate effectively

Requirements

  • Hold a professional accounting qualification or CTA qualification
  • Demonstrate strong technical competence
  • Thorough understanding of tax regulations and legislation across a breadth of different taxes within complex organisations
  • International tax experience would be a distinct advantage

Working Arrangements

The role is campus based however staff can opt to work under the Finance Office’s current hybrid policy where a maximum of 40% of time (2 days per week for full-time staff; normally Tuesdays and Fridays) can be worked remotely, subject to review and operational requirements. Whilst in the induction phase, you’ll be required to work 100% in the office. Further details are available on request or at interview stage. This role is offered on a full-time basis but applications for 4 working days will be considered.
