We’re now looking for a Head of Tax to join our Finance leadership team reporting to the Director of Group Finance. This is an excellent opportunity for someone currently in a deputy position, who is looking to transition into a head role, or for those looking to move from practice into an in-house role.
This hands-on, business-facing role offers you the chance to not only manage day-to-day tax operations but also to have direct reporting responsibilities to the Audit Committee and Board to ensure adherence to the Group Tax Strategy.
About the Role
- Full accountability for year-end reporting, UK corporation tax, and responsibility for UK VAT returns. The role also has an international aspect, particularly in the US and Australia, with oversight of tax matters and outsourced tax compliance.
- Acting as a key liaison with Commercial and Editorial departments to build strong relationships and ensure tax considerations are integrated into strategic decision-making processes.
- Overseeing general tax advisory matters, you'll have the added dimension of managing the tax implications of investments within the endowment portfolio of equity investments and private equity investments, working closely with the Chief Investment Officer.
- Lead and mentor a small team, and as a member of the finance leadership team, you will also have the opportunity to lead wider initiatives across the department.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
