Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Kent for a Head of Team Children Panel Accredited Solicitor. The role involves:
- Leading and managing a specialist children law team
- Supervising casework
- Ensuring high standards of legal advice and representation in public and private children law matters

The postholder will handle their own caseload, including complex care proceedings, child protection cases, and matters involving local authorities, guardians, and parents or carers. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Advocacy at court hearings
- Drafting legal documents and statements
- Providing clear advice to clients
- Liaising with counsel, experts, and other professionals
The role also includes:
- Contributing to team development
- Maintaining compliance with regulatory and quality standards
- Supporting training and mentoring of junior colleagues
- Assisting with business development and profile-raising activities
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in children law, including public law children proceedings, care and supervision orders, child protection, and related family law matters.
- Solicitor with Law Society Children Panel accreditation (or eligibility and commitment to obtain accreditation within an agreed timeframe).
- Proven experience managing a caseload of complex children law cases and conducting advocacy in the Family Court and higher courts where appropriate.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, including supervision of fee-earners, support staff, and trainees, with a focus on quality and performance.
- Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with strong attention to detail and sound professional judgment.
- Exceptional communication and client-care skills, including the ability to work sensitively with children, families, and vulnerable clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
- Familiarity with Legal Aid procedures, regulatory requirements, and compliance with SRA standards and firm policies.
