Head of Technical & Operations

Salary: £70,000 – £90,000
Location: London

PURPOSE OF ROLE

An established and growing insurance brokerage is looking to appoint a Head of Technical & Operations to take responsibility for the continued development of its technical, operational and compliance framework. This is a senior position for an experienced insurance professional who can provide strong operational leadership while improving processes, controls and technical standards across the business. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and operational teams to ensure the business continues to deliver an efficient, compliant and high-quality service to clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and develop the firm's technical and operational strategy.
  • Oversee operational processes, controls and governance across the business.
  • Review and improve procedures to increase efficiency and consistency.
  • Maintain high technical and compliance standards across broking operations.
  • Identify operational risks and implement appropriate controls and solutions.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to deliver business improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to broking and operational teams.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and ensure relevant changes are embedded within the business.
  • Review systems and processes to identify opportunities for automation and improved efficiency.
  • Develop and monitor key operational performance measures and reporting.
  • Support the ongoing development, training and capability of operational teams.

DAY-TO-DAY

  • Providing leadership and direction across technical and operational functions.
  • Reviewing existing processes and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Working with internal stakeholders to implement new procedures and controls.
  • Monitoring service standards, operational performance and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting the resolution of complex operational and technical issues.
  • Producing management information and reporting for senior leadership.
  • Working with IT and other internal teams to improve systems and workflows.
  • Keeping up to date with changes across the insurance market and regulatory environment.
  • Coaching and mentoring colleagues to improve technical knowledge and operational standards.
  • Supporting wider strategic projects and business transformation initiatives.

EXPERIENCE

  • Significant experience within the commercial insurance broking or insurance sector.
  • Previous experience in a technical, operational, governance or senior broking leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance processes and the broking lifecycle.
  • Experience developing and implementing operational procedures, controls and governance frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance within the insurance industry.
  • Demonstrable experience of improving processes, systems and operational efficiency.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and influencing business-wide change.
  • Previous experience managing, coaching or developing teams.
  • CII qualification or equivalent professional insurance qualification would be advantageous.
