Head of Technology (Shopify/E-commerce)
£80,000 - £90,000
Poole, Dorset (onsite)
Your new company
I've partnered with an independently owned, multi-brand e-commerce business headquartered in Poole that have taken the decision to bring their IT function in-house and reduce reliance on 3rd party suppliers. With an established B2B operation, a rapidly expanding consumer brand, and ambitious growth plans, the company has reached an exciting stage in its journey where technology is a strategic function over a support service.
This role is fully onsite in Poole and it's a relaxed environment filled with hungry, likeminded people. It is the opposite of a corporate, enterprise vehicle.
Your new role
The Head of Tech role is one of the first significant appointments on this journey and offers the rare opportunity to join at a point of maximum impact, taking ownership of technology strategy and guiding transformation. You'll help reduce reliance on third parties while building stronger internal capability (very likely recruiting a small team within year one which will include specialist Developers with E-Commerce platform experience).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Reporting directly to the Founder it's a highly visible leadership role where you'll act as the technology voice for the company. You'll take ownership of the entire technology estate, namely Shopify Plus enabling developers to get work on advanced customisation and deeper API access, but also extending to ERP, data and business systems.
What you'll need to succeed
You may come from a software, digital, ERP or e-commerce background, but your strength will be in owning business-critical technology platforms, hiring technical/software staff, managing suppliers, shaping technology strategy.
You'll be commercially minded, comfortable working closely with founders and senior stakeholders, and capable of balancing strategic planning with operational delivery. Experience with Shopify Plus and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central will be hugely advantageous.

You'll have a proven track record of managing agencies, vendors and MSPs, with the confidence to challenge third parties, improve delivery and gradually bring greater technology ownership in-house.
What you'll get in return
