Head of Group Technology Operations

Location: York – 3 days per week onsite

Contract: Contract

Rate: £450–£500 per day

IR35: Inside IR35

We are looking for an experienced Head of Group Technology Operations to lead the end-to-end operational technology function across a complex, multi-site organisation. You will take responsibility for the stability, resilience and performance of Group IT services across both Azure cloud and on-premises infrastructure. Leading multi-disciplinary engineering and operations teams, you will drive operational excellence across incident, problem and change management, monitoring, maintenance and service reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Group Technology Operations function and engineering teams.
  • Define and improve operational standards, processes and service levels.
  • Oversee Azure services, including compute, storage, networking, identity and monitoring.
  • Manage on-premises infrastructure including servers, storage, networking, virtualisation, firewalls and backups.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for major incidents.
  • Drive effective incident, problem and change management practices.
  • Own monitoring, reliability, capacity planning and planned maintenance strategies.
  • Work closely with security teams to ensure operational compliance and strong security practices.
  • Lead, mentor and develop engineering and operations teams.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and third-party service providers.

  • Proven experience leading IT Operations or Infrastructure teams within a complex or multi-site environment.
  • Strong understanding of Azure, including IaaS, PaaS, identity, networking and monitoring.
  • Experience managing hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of ITIL, incident, problem and change management.
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting and service reliability practices.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with cloud migration programmes.
  • Knowledge of automation, scripting or Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with security operations or compliance frameworks.
  • Experience managing outsourced or third-party technology providers.
