Freightliner are an established and leading rail freight provider who are committed to the continued investment in the latest locomotive technology, wagons and infrastructure to provide the quality of service that surpasses customer expectations. Freightliner is a nationwide operator with a fleet of over 80 locomotives and 2,000 wagons. The Head of Track Infrastructure will be responsible for our track engineering standards, carrying out our annual level 3 maintenance requirements, managing track replacement projects and carrying out assessments and investigations of our track.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a Safety leader - ensure you, your team, contractors and others work safely at all times. Ensure your Team conduct their engineering duties to our high standards safely and with integrity.
  • Develop and own our track maintenance standards so they are optimal for our business requirements.
  • Carry out annual track maintenance assessments (level 3) to ensure the track is being maintained to standard and collate a report to enable decisions on investment.
  • Support the track maintenance team carrying out the inspections in their duties by supplying technical advice on arising issues.
  • Support our internal stakeholders to ensure that their track maintenance is completed in accordance with the designated track maintenance schedule and maintenance standards. Provide reports for the sites highlighting what repairs need to be made, timescales, and investment required.
  • Own the track maintenance budget and report on the P&L on a monthly basis.
  • On-call responsibility for technical advice and protection of Freightliner’s interests at main-line incidents including taking the role of silver command for T&RS if required.
  • Lead any track technical investigations.
  • Any other track-related duties.

Requirements:

  • A proven track record of success in management of a team.
  • Experience in railway track infrastructure.
  • Proactive, innovative, and creative approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent oral communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills with the ability to take a confident and diplomatic approach with staff, colleagues, and customers.
  • Written communication skills with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
  • Prioritise and work well under pressure, whilst making key decisions.
  • Numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data/information and produce in a clear and logical format.
  • A working knowledge of PC applications; Microsoft and Outlook.
  • On-call safety of the line responsibilities.

The successful candidate should be able to use their own initiative to motivate and drive their team to deliver to our high standards. They need to be committed to providing a high standard of service to the business and attacks goals and objectives with drive, energy, and enthusiasm. A flexible approach to working hours is required as there is an on-call responsibility for technical advice and protection of Freightliner’s interests at main-line incidents. Also, a certain level of UK travel is required including overnight stays.
