Accelerating the Energy Transition
At ENGIE, we are accelerating the energy transition across Europe. Our UK Energy Management team sits at the heart of this ambition, optimising how energy is traded, stored, and delivered. We need a visionary leader to shape the future of our trading capabilities.
As Head of Trading
You will define and deliver our trading and quantitative strategy across UK power, gas, and environmental markets. This is your opportunity to build a best-in-class algorithmic trading platform, lead high-performing teams, and drive real impact within one of Europe's leading energy companies.
What You'll Do
- Define and execute trading strategies across linear and non-linear products in UK power, gas, and environmental certificate markets.
- Drive asset-backed trading optimisation for renewable energy (wind/solar) and battery storage portfolios to maximise flexibility value.
- Lead the development of a scalable quantitative and algorithmic trading platform, accelerating automation and systematic execution.
- Develop and scale market-making and liquidity provision activities to strengthen ENGIE's competitive position.
- Collaborate with Origination and Portfolio Management teams to structure monetisation strategies for renewable and storage assets.
- Build, inspire, and develop multi-disciplinary teams across trading, quantitative analytics, and algorithmic development.
- Ensure all trading activities operate within approved governance, compliance, and risk frameworks.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
