Key Responsibilities

Transport Leadership & Management

  • Lead the Transport & Logistics function across all Vyta locations.
  • Procure vehicles and services to meet strategy and compliance requirements.
  • Provide leadership and line management to transport office staff, supervisors, drivers and collection crews.
  • Develop and implement a transport strategy aligned to company growth objectives.
  • Create and maintain a consistent transport operating model across all sites.
  • Ensure transport planning, collection execution, fleet management, driver management and compliance activity are coordinated effectively across all locations.
  • Develop transport capability, succession planning, KPIs and performance measures across the function.

Transport Management Responsibilities

  • Act as the nominated Transport Manager for Vyta’s Operator Licences.
  • Maintain continuous and effective management of all licensed transport operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all Operator Licence undertakings, conditions and regulatory obligations.
  • Maintain systems for driver hours, tachograph management, Driver CPC, licence verification, defect reporting and vehicle maintenance compliance.
  • Oversee maintenance providers, inspection schedules, preventative maintenance programmes and vehicle roadworthiness standards.
  • Lead transport audits, regulatory inspections and compliance reviews.
  • Liaise with Traffic Commissioners, regulatory bodies and enforcement authorities where required.
  • Provide transport compliance assurance to the COO and senior leadership team.
  • Support future licence applications, licence variations and transport compliance requirements associated with business growth.

Fleet & Compliance Management

  • Own fleet strategy, replacement planning and fleet performance.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained to the highest operational and compliance standards.
  • Oversee servicing, MOT, LOLER, inspections, defect management and preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Maintain driver compliance systems and ensure records remain accurate and audit ready.
  • Monitor vehicle utilisation, fleet efficiency and transport compliance risk.

Transport Operations & Logistics

  • Oversee collection planning and execution across all regions.
  • Ensure efficient vehicle, crew and resource allocation.
  • Manage transport service performance and operational capacity.
  • Support major projects, relocations, data centre work and large-scale collections.
  • Ensure effective coordination between Transport, Operations, Service Delivery and other business functions.

Logistics, Customs & Commercial Management

  • Own relationships with pallet networks, freight carriers, couriers and logistics providers.
  • Negotiate and manage transport-related contracts and commercial agreements.
  • Monitor and manage transport and logistics expenditure, budgets and performance reporting.
  • Develop and improve customs and cross-border logistics processes.
  • Ensure import/export and customs requirements are properly controlled and documented.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, improved fleet utilisation and logistics efficiency.
  • Develop transport pricing models and support commercial decision making where required.

Chain of Custody, Security & Quality Standards

  • Ensure transport operations comply with Vyta’s chain-of-custody, data security and customer assurance requirements.
  • Ensure transport records, manifests, waste documentation and collection records are maintained accurately.
  • Maintain transport security processes and standards across all sites and vehicles.
  • Support investigations and corrective actions relating to transport activity, incidents or documentation issues.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead transport improvement projects across planning, systems, reporting, route efficiency and fleet utilisation.
  • Improve logistics reporting, cost visibility and carrier performance management.
  • Drive technology adoption and process improvement within the transport function.
  • Ensure the function develops from a reactive transport operation into a proactive, compliant and commercially managed business function.

Health, Safety & Operational Standards

  • Promote safe working practices across transport, driving, loading, unloading and collection activity.
  • Ensure drivers and collection crews follow safe systems of work and site-specific requirements.
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment and driver areas are maintained to appropriate standards.
  • Ensure defects, incidents, near misses and safety concerns are recorded, investigated and closed out.
  • Work with Health & Safety and Compliance teams to ensure transport activity remains aligned with legal and company requirements.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong leadership, communication and people management skills.
  • Commercial awareness and experience managing budgets, suppliers and operational performance.
  • Transport Manager CPC qualification.
  • Eligible to act as a nominated Transport Manager on Vyta’s Operator Licences.
  • Significant experience managing transport operations within an Operator Licence environment.
  • Strong understanding of Operator Licence obligations, driver hours legislation, tachograph compliance, Driver CPC requirements and vehicle maintenance compliance.
  • Experience managing drivers, fleets and transport teams.
  • Ability to manage operational priorities while delivering strategic improvement.
  • Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail in relation to compliance, documentation and audit requirements.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience within ITAD, recycling, waste management, environmental services or secure logistics.
  • Experience managing customs or cross-border logistics.
  • Experience managing pallet networks, courier or freight contracts.
  • Knowledge of UK, Irish and European transport regulations.
  • Experience of transport software, telematics, tachograph systems or fleet management platforms.
  • Experience developing transport KPIs, cost reporting or fleet performance reporting.
