INTERNAL VACANCY

City of York Council is looking for a Head of Transport Projects to lead our Transport Projects team and deliver improvements that make a real difference for our city.

York offers a truly unique blend of historic character and forward‑looking infrastructure that makes it an energising place for any Project engineering or Project Management professional to further their career. Combining roman walls, medieval streets, and Victorian rail heritage with an active commitment to sustainable mobility, smart‑city innovation, and major regeneration projects.

Reporting to our City Head of Capital Programmes, you will be working within a growing City Development directorate, focussed on the provision and delivery of a high-quality, client responsive service.

The Transport Projects team covers a diverse portfolio including our active travel programme, the continued rollout of our electric vehicle charging infrastructure, expansion of our Park & Ride sites, complex road safety improvement projects, school streets and the councils largest major roads project York Outer Ring Road Dualling.

The role will involve leading a team of highly motivated engineering and project management professionals in the delivery of projects from inception to completion, acting as lead for relationships with external partners such as York North Yorkshire Combined Authority, Department for Transport & private developers.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated leader to shape and grow the teams success and future direction. In return we will offer a range of diverse tasks and projects to work on as well as individual training and development opportunities.

As an excellent and proactive communicator, you will have experience in working within the civil infrastructure, project management / capital delivery sector preferably, but not essentially, Highways & Transport.
