I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Given Cardaq’s position within the payments industry, the Head of Treasury will work closely with Finance, Payments and Operations to oversee:

  • Merchant settlement funding requirements.
  • Card-scheme and processing-related cash movements.
  • Settlement accounts and reconciliation processes.
  • Timing differences between incoming and outgoing settlement flows.
  • Merchant reserves and other payment-related liquidity requirements.
  • Cross-border payment flows.
  • Funding requirements arising from refunds, chargebacks and other payment obligations.
  • Operational liquidity across payment and banking partners.

The objective is to ensure Cardaq can meet its financial and settlement obligations accurately, efficiently and on time.

Liquidity & Financial Risk

  • Establish appropriate liquidity thresholds and early-warning indicators.
  • Identify potential liquidity concentrations and dependencies on individual banks, currencies or counterparties.
  • Monitor FX, counterparty, concentration and settlement risk from a treasury perspective.
  • Conduct liquidity stress testing and scenario analysis.
  • Develop contingency funding and liquidity arrangements where appropriate.
  • Escalate material treasury or liquidity risks promptly to senior management.
  • Support Finance and Risk with treasury-related elements of the Group’s wider risk-management framework.

Treasury Controls & Governance

  • Maintain strong segregation of duties and approval controls for treasury activities.
  • Establish appropriate payment authorisation and treasury approval matrices.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation between treasury records, bank accounts and financial systems.
  • Support internal and external audits relating to treasury and cash management.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and evidence supporting treasury decisions and transactions.
  • Work closely with Finance, Risk, Compliance and Operations to ensure treasury processes meet applicable regulatory and governance expectations.

Strategic Responsibilities

The Head of Treasury will also act as a strategic adviser to senior management on treasury matters.

This will include supporting:

  • International expansion and establishment of new entities.
  • Selection of banking and payment partners.
  • New currencies and settlement arrangements.
  • New payment products and commercial propositions.
  • Treasury technology and automation.
  • Group cash-management structures.
  • Capital and liquidity planning.
  • Evaluation of treasury costs and financial efficiency.

Treasury Development & Automation

A particularly important part of the role will be helping Cardaq move towards a more automated, data-driven treasury environment.

The Head of Treasury should identify opportunities to improve:

  • Cash visibility → forecasting → reconciliation → payment approvals → FX management → liquidity monitoring → management reporting.

The objective is not simply to operate the existing treasury function, but to help build a scalable treasury infrastructure capable of supporting Cardaq’s international growth.

Part-Time Structure

As this is a senior part-time position, we are looking for someone capable of operating independently and prioritising effectively.

The role is therefore particularly suited to an experienced treasury professional who can provide executive-level expertise and oversight without requiring a traditional full-time position.

The successful candidate will be expected to remain sufficiently available for critical treasury decisions, banking matters and liquidity issues when required.
