Want to lead the UK growth of a technology business helping water companies reduce sewer overflows and make better use of their existing networks?

Influx Search are extremely excited to be partnering with a growing US-headquartered digital water business that combines real-time data, digital twins, predictive analytics and intelligent control to improve wastewater network operations. Its founders have spent more than 20 years developing real-time decision support systems for water utilities.

The technology helps operators understand what is happening across a network, anticipate the impact of incoming storms and identify actions that can reduce spills and flooding. The business already has a significant UK utility customer, deployments across multiple catchments and relationships with water companies across the country. It is now making its first permanent UK hire to build on that foundation.

What’s the job?

As Head of UK, you will be the senior person on the ground for a business entering its next stage of UK growth. The role brings together three areas: developing commercial opportunities; ensuring customers succeed through implementation and ongoing use; and building the team needed to support growth.

You will work with existing customers, prospective utilities and a strategic UK partner to progress opportunities from initial discussion through to discovery studies, implementation and wider rollout. This is a consultative sale: understanding a utility’s operational pressures, bringing the right technical colleagues into the conversation and building a clear case for change.

You will remain close to delivery once a project is won. Implementations bring together utility operators, engineers, software specialists and other stakeholders, often across the UK and US. You will help keep them aligned, support customer adoption and make sure the solution delivers measurable value.

As the UK business grows, you will help decide which capabilities to bring into the local team, recruit and develop colleagues and take increasing ownership of its direction and performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing senior relationships across UK water companies and progressing opportunities alongside the company’s UK partner.
  • Identifying where real-time decision support could address wastewater network challenges, particularly storm response and overflow reduction.
  • Leading discovery conversations, workshops and commercial discussions with technical, operational and executive stakeholders.
  • Growing existing utility relationships from initial projects into broader programmes.
  • Acting as a key client contact during onboarding and implementation, coordinating UK stakeholders with technical colleagues in the US.
  • Keeping delivery, customer adoption and operational outcomes on track, while identifying risks early.
  • Feeding customer and market insight into product development.
  • Helping establish the UK operation and, over time, building and leading its team.

What’s in it for you?

This is an opportunity to shape a UK operation from its first local hire. You will have direct access to the founders and senior leadership, significant autonomy in the market and a voice in decisions about customers, partnerships, hiring and how the business develops. There is already something tangible to build upon: an established anchor customer, live UK work and access to a broad range of water companies. Your challenge will be to turn that traction into a larger, sustainable business whilst ensuring delivery keeps pace with growth. The scope of your role will also grow alongside the operation. As local capability develops, the intention is for this person to take broader leadership of the UK business, including its team, strategy and commercial performance. You will be close enough to customers to see the results of the technology, with the freedom to influence how it is brought to market.

What do we need from you?

You will know the UK water industry well, including how water companies assess, buy and implement new solutions. Wastewater network experience is particularly relevant, as is an established network of utility relationships.

Commercial ability is also important. We are interested in someone who can develop trust, uncover opportunities, guide complex discussions and move them towards decisions. You will also need the organisation and ownership to stay involved after a project is won, working with delivery teams and customers to achieve a successful outcome.

Experience with digital water, SaaS, analytics, hydraulic modelling, SCADA, telemetry, IoT or digital twins would be valuable. You do not need to build the models or write the software yourself, but you should be comfortable discussing technical concepts with engineers and explaining their practical value to operational and executive stakeholders.

You may currently work in business development, strategic accounts or programme leadership, or hold a senior role within a utility or consultancy. The common denominator is water sector credibility, commercial judgement, client leadership and the ambition to build something.

The business works remotely, with Newcastle upon Tyne as its intended UK hub. You do not have to live in the Northeast, but you will need to visit Newcastle semi-regularly and travel to customers around the UK. Travel is expected to be approximately 30%.
