We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Head of UK Political Engagement, Retail.
In this role you will lead UK public policy and political engagement on retail banking policy in Group Public Affairs, working closely with the GPA leadership and managing senior stakeholder relationships internally and externally. You will work closely with the CEO, RBW HSBC UK and their OpCo to develop public policy proposals on a range of retail banking policy issues and to execute a senior stakeholder engagement plan with relevant policymakers, politicians and trade bodies. You will be a trusted adviser, briefing and joining senior leaders for political engagement (aligned to wider external-facing teams and strategic priorities), and representing the bank externally with policymakers, politicians and trade bodies.

Responsibilities will include:
- Leading the work of the Group Public Affairs team on UK retail banking public policy and legislative issues
- Tracking and analysing political and policy developments across the UK consumer agenda, anticipating impacts on the bank and our customers
- Keeping senior leaders ahead of emerging issues with timely insight, clear implications, and practical guidance on what it means for priorities and delivery
- Building and owning strong relationships with senior stakeholders across RBW to inform robust, commercially grounded policy positions
- Developing clear policy positions and turn them into a structured programme of senior-leader engagement (who, when, why, and with what message)
- Producing high-quality, strategic briefings that equip senior leaders for political engagement—aligned with other external-facing teams and wider bank priorities
- Identifying and coordinate opportunities for constructive external engagement that support strategic objectives and strengthen HSBC’s reputation
- Representing the bank confidently with policymakers, politicians and trade associations, communicating a compelling and balanced narrative to UK and Group leadership

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Solid understanding of how UK public policy is developed and how the external political/regulatory environment affects retail banking
- Demonstrated capability to represent organisational interests externally, building and sustaining credible relationships in industry, political and consumer-focused forums
- Experience operating in a matrix organisation, working effectively across teams and functions to deliver joined-up outcomes
- Strong understanding of retail banking business lines and commercial drivers (or equivalent relevant financial services experience)
- Proven ability to build strong internal relationships, communicating clearly and influencing senior leaders and technical experts with confidence
- Skilled at negotiating and aligning stakeholders to land agreed outcomes in a complex, fast-moving environment
- Experience as a “leader of peers”, coordinating and guiding subject matter experts across the Group to develop well-rounded policy positions and technical guidance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, compelling messages for senior audiences
