Head of Used Cars
Salary: Up to £75,000 Basic + Annual Bonus + Executive Benefits

The Opportunity
Pybus Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced and commercially focused Head of Used Cars to join a leading automotive organisation within the UK market.
This is a senior strategic leadership role with responsibility for shaping and driving the success of the organisation's used vehicle operations. The successful candidate will define and implement used car strategies, optimise retailer network performance, enhance approved used vehicle programmes, and work collaboratively across multiple departments to protect residual values and maximise profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Performance & Network Leadership
- Monitor and optimise network-wide used vehicle sales performance, stock turn and profitability metrics.
- Identify market trends and implement targeted initiatives to increase volume, profitability and customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with the retailer network to maximise used car performance through effective stock acquisition, pricing strategies and vehicle presentation standards.
- Support retailers with best-practice guidance and performance improvement plans.
- Collaborate with finance and funding partners to develop attractive retail finance campaigns that drive customer acquisition and enhance sales performance.

Strategic Development & Residual Value Protection
- Lead the development and ongoing enhancement of the Approved Used Vehicle Programme.
- Create and refine programme standards including warranty offerings, vehicle preparation requirements, inspection processes and customer benefits.
- Work closely with Residual Value and Remarketing teams to support pricing strategies and protect long-term vehicle values.
- Manage supply channels effectively to maintain market competitiveness and brand equity.
Remarketing & Stock Management
- Support the management of company vehicle disposals, demonstrator programmes and vehicle defleet operations.
- Ensure quality used vehicle stock is distributed effectively across the retailer network.
- Develop strategies to maximise vehicle remarketing performance and profitability.
Digital Strategy & Compliance
- Introduce and manage retailer audit programmes to ensure compliance with Approved Used standards.
- Monitor vehicle preparation, customer experience standards and retailer adherence to programme requirements.
- Analyse competitor activity, used vehicle pricing trends, market supply levels and economic factors impacting demand and vehicle valuations.
- Produce regular performance reports and recommendations for senior leadership.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience in a senior Used Car leadership role, either at OEM level or within a major automotive retail group.
- Strong understanding of the UK used vehicle market, including CAP HPI valuations, auction channels and remarketing operations.
- Experience leading retailer network performance and developing used vehicle growth strategies.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to analyse complex data and translate findings into business performance improvements.
- Experience developing and managing Approved Used Vehicle programmes.
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and influencing skills.
- A proven track record of delivering profitable growth and protecting vehicle residual values.
