The Company:

Deta Electrical is a market-leading manufacturer and distributor of wiring, lighting and electrical installation accessories. With a reputation for quality, reliability and value for money, Deta’s extensive brand and product portfolio is distributed through electrical wholesale and retail (DIY) channels.

Role Purpose:

We are seeking a hands-on, commercially astute leader to take ownership of the end-to-end warehouse and distribution function. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the role will lead operational performance, service delivery and transformational change, ensuring the supply chain can support business growth while maintaining strong cost control, stock accuracy and customer service across wholesale and retail (DIY) channels.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Commercial Leadership

  • Develop and execute the warehouse and distribution strategy, aligning operational capability with business growth, customer service, cost and scalability objectives.
  • Hold full accountability for warehouse and distribution budgets, identifying opportunities to improve productivity, reduce cost-to-serve and strengthen operational resilience.
  • Use operational data, KPIs and financial insight to support decision making, prioritise improvement activity and deliver measurable business benefits.

Warehouse and Distribution Operations

  • Lead all warehouse and distribution activities, including inbound logistics, stock control, inventory accuracy, order fulfilment, pick, pack and despatch, and outbound delivery.
  • Deliver performance against core KPIs including OTIF, order accuracy, inventory accuracy, productivity, cost-to-serve, service levels and customer experience.
  • Ensure robust standards for health and safety, regulatory compliance, quality, housekeeping and operational discipline across the warehouse and distribution operation.

Wholesale And Retail Fulfilment

  • Ensure the operation meets the service, compliance and delivery expectations of electrical wholesale and retail customers.
  • Plan capacity and resource effectively to support seasonal peaks, promotional activity, volume variability and customer specific fulfilment requirements.
  • Work cross functionally with commercial, customer service, procurement and supply chain teams to improve availability, service reliability and customer satisfaction.

Transport, Carrier and 3PL Management

  • Own relationships with third-party logistics providers, parcel carriers and pallet network partners, ensuring strong governance, service performance, commercial control and contractual compliance.
  • Manage carrier and 3PL performance through KPI reporting, service reviews, issue resolution and continuous improvement plans.
  • Lead logistics procurement and tender activity to secure effective, scalable and commercially competitive transport and fulfilment solutions.

Systems, WMS and Transformation

  • Lead the implementation and ongoing optimisation of a new Warehouse Management System, including vendor selection, management, process design, testing, training and go-live delivery.
  • Act as business owner for warehouse technology platforms, ensuring effective integration between WMS, ERP, automation solutions and logistics partners.
  • Identify and deliver process improvement, automation and operational excellence initiatives to improve efficiency, service levels and scalability.

People Leadership, Safety and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead, develop and inspire warehouse management teams and frontline colleagues through effective recruitment, coaching, performance management and succession planning.
  • Create a practical, data driven continuous improvement culture, using Lean, Six Sigma or similar methods where appropriate.
  • Engage stakeholders across the business to embed new processes, technologies and ways of working in a hands-on, fast-moving operational environment.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior warehouse, distribution or supply chain leadership role with responsibility for operational performance, people leadership and budget management.
  • Hands on leadership experience in a fast-moving warehouse or distribution environment, ideally within a mid-sized B2B business rather than a purely corporate or highly layered structure.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse and fulfilment best practice, including inventory management, picking and packing, slotting, cycle counting, despatch and logistics performance management.
  • Demonstrable success leading warehouse transformation, including WMS implementation, upgrade or migration projects.
  • Significant experience managing outsourced logistics operations, including 3PLs, parcel carriers, pallet networks and transport procurement.
  • Experience supporting electrical wholesale and/or retail DIY, FMCG or similar customer channels with demanding service and fulfilment requirements.
  • Commercially astute, with experience managing budgets, improving productivity, controlling cost-to-serve and negotiating supplier or logistics contracts.
  • Analytical and data-driven, with expertise in KPI development, capacity planning, performance reporting and operational problem solving.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with WMS and ERP platforms such as SAP, Iptor or Microsoft Dynamics, with advanced Excel capability.
  • Exposure to warehouse automation, transport management systems or wider supply chain systems integration.
  • Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement experience.
