About us

Part of Iconic Hotels and Resorts, The Lensbury is located on the Banks of the River Thames at Teddington and is home to an exclusive leisure club, a 156 bedroom hotel, meeting and events space, restaurant and bar, Spa and 25 acres of gardens and grounds.

Our Racquets facilities include multiple tennis surfaces (4 clay, 3 grass, 4 artificial grass, 8 floodlit macadam, 3 floodlit mini and 2 mini red artificial grass courts), alongside 2 full-sized squash courts, 3 Pickleball courts and 2 new Padel courts.

The Role

The Head Racquets Professional, in conjunction with the Club GM & Leisure Operations Manager, will develop and implement the annual racquets strategy aligned with club objectives.

The role will prioritise strategic oversight, coaching quality, adult programme development and member engagement. Operational delivery and day-to-day administration will be delegated to the Racquets Administrator, Head of Junior Racquets Programme and coaching team where appropriate.

The postholder will focus on adult racquets participation, coaching standards, financial performance, facility management, and the continued growth of racquet sports within the club.

Key Responsibilities

Racquets Department Leadership

  • Lead and manage the club's overall racquets programme and coaching operation.
  • Develop and implement the annual racquets strategy aligned with club objectives.
  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality coaching experience across all racquets activities.
  • Act as the departmental lead, and main point of contact for racquets within the club.
  • Support the Club GM in the management of the Club’s Racquets Focus Groups.

Team Management

  • Directly line manage the Head of Junior Racquets Programme.
  • Direct line management of Racquets Administrator.
  • Lead, support, and develop all self-employed coaches.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching observations.
  • Ensure appropriate coach deployment and court allocation.

Adult Racquets Programme

  • Design and oversee the adult racquets programme, including social, recreational, and performance activities.
  • Deliver individual and group coaching as required.
  • Increase adult participation through well-structured coaching and social offerings.
  • Develop opportunities for members of all standards to engage with racquets.

  • Manage the Racquets department budget and financial targets.
  • Drive coaching, programme, event, and court-related revenues.
  • Monitor performance against participation and revenue KPIs.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and operational efficiencies.

Competitions & Club Events

  • Oversee the annual programme of club championships, social tournaments, and member events.
  • Develop relationships with local clubs, leagues, and governing bodies.
  • Oversee all Lensbury Club teams and team captains.
  • Support inclusive competitive club team participation.

Oversight of Junior Racquets

  • Provide leadership, support, and strategic direction to the Head of Junior Racquets Programme.
  • Review participation, retention, coaching quality, and financial performance of junior racquets activities.
  • Support the development of junior pathways while delegating operational delivery to the Head of Junior Racquets Programme.

Facility Standards & Health and Safety

  • Ensure courts, equipment, and racquets environments are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Work with operations and grounds teams on court maintenance planning.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and club policies.
