Head Veterinary Nurse (RVN) or Aspiring Head Nurse

About the Practice
Friern Barnet Vets for Pets is a friendly and progressive small animal practice in North West London, seeking a motivated Head RVN (or aspiring Head RVN) to join our expanding team. We pride ourselves on:

We live for running nurse clinics, coaching students, and getting hands-on with procedures such as scale and polish.
Our Growth & Team
Over the past two years, we’ve grown significantly. Our practice owners, Roger and Jonathan, bring over 30 years of combined experience, while our current Head Vet is currently undertaking a Dermatology Certificate.
Our team includes:
- 3.5 vets
- 1 RVN
- 3 SVNs
- 1 VCA
- 1 Practice Manager
We’re supported by visiting peripatetic orthopaedic surgeons and an ultrasonographer.
Our purpose-built surgery is equipped with:
- A full in-house lab
- Ultrasound facilities
- Digital and dental X-ray
Conveniently located within Friern Bridge Retail Park, we provide ample onsite parking and excellent public transport links.
About the Role
This is a full-time role (40 hours per week), including one Saturday in every three with time off in lieu. There is no out-of-hours work, ensuring a healthy work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities
You will be part of a small but experienced team, working alongside:
- Rayyan – our experienced new Head Vet
- Petra – our long-standing Practice Manager (with 10+ years at Friern Barnet)
We’re looking for someone who: ✔ Has exceptional communication skills ✔ Brings enthusiasm & a lead-by-example approach ✔ Has (or is keen to train in) clinical coaching ✔ Wants to play a crucial role in the practice’s ongoing development
Your day-to-day work will include:
- Running nurse clinics (obesity, diabetic, and behavioural consultations)
- Coaching student veterinary nurses
- Performing Schedule 3 procedures, including dental scale and polish
- Conducting routine tasks such as second vaccinations and post-op checks
- Supporting the overall growth of the practice and nursing team
