Headache Specialist Nurse (Band 6, 0.8 wte)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, committed, and enthusiastic Senior Registered Nurse to join our Neurology Specialist Nurse team as a Headache Specialist Nurse (Band 6, 0.8 wte). The successful applicant will become an integral part of the UHDB Headache service. The post-holder will work alongside an existing 0.8 wte Band 7 Headache Specialist Nurse and the wider Neurology team including Consultant Neurologists to coordinate care for patients and to further develop the Headache service for the UHDB catchment area.
The B6 Headache Specialist Nurse will provide expert information, education, and support to patients with Refractory Headache disorders and to their relatives/carers ensuring rapid access to advice, treatment, and the implementation of individual care plans as a clinical priority. Much of the work of the post-holder will be focused on managing specialist (hospital-prescribed) 2nd line treatments for Migraine including Botulinum Toxin therapy. The B6 Headache Specialist Nurse will also deliver nurse-led clinics in Medical Outpatients, run a busy telephone helpline service, and review admitted patients in liaison with the existing Band 7 Headache Specialist Nurse and act as a contact point and educational resource for all healthcare professionals (hospital and community-based) in delivering current best practice for Headache disorders.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert information, education, and support to patients with Refractory Headache disorders.

Requirements:
- Evidence of relevant practice.
- Background in Neurology is advantageous.
- Experience in management of working with people with long-term conditions is essential.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Contribute towards treatment as part of the MDT.
- Maintain high standards of nursing care.
- Involvement in continuous quality improvement and development of the UHDB Headache service.
- Ensure professionalism is maintained at all times.
- Commitment to ensuring patient safety, privacy, and dignity.
