Headteacher – SEMH Primary School
Location: Greater Manchester
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Start Date: ASAP
About the School
We are recruiting an exceptional Headteacher to lead a small specialist primary school supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and additional SEND.
The school provides a nurturing, structured and highly personalised learning environment where strong relationships sit at the heart of everything. Small class groups enable staff to understand each pupil’s individual needs, remove barriers to learning and support meaningful academic, social and emotional progress.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced school leader—or an ambitious Deputy Headteacher ready for their first headship—to shape a specialist provision and make a visible difference to every pupil and member of staff.
The Role
As Headteacher, you will provide inspirational, strategic and operational leadership across the school. You will be accountable for educational standards, safeguarding, staff development, pupil wellbeing and the school’s continued improvement.
Working alongside senior education leaders and central support teams, you will create a calm, consistent and aspirational culture in which pupils feel safe, understood and able to succeed.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing clear strategic leadership and direction for the school
- Creating an ambitious, inclusive and personalised curriculum for primary-aged pupils
- Driving high standards of teaching, learning and assessment
- Ensuring pupils’ EHCP outcomes are understood and embedded across the curriculum
- Establishing consistent, trauma-informed approaches to behaviour and emotional regulation
- Maintaining an outstanding culture of safeguarding and child protection
- Leading school improvement planning, self-evaluation and quality assurance
- Ensuring compliance with Ofsted expectations and the Independent School Standards
- Using pupil progress, attendance and behaviour information to inform improvement
- Recruiting, developing and retaining an effective school team
- Supporting staff wellbeing while maintaining high levels of accountability
- Working collaboratively with parents, carers, local authorities and external professionals
- Managing resources effectively and contributing to the continued development of the wider organisation

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
