Health & Safety Advisor - Operations
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time, 35 hours
Salary: Starting from £42,149 per annum (London weighted salary) or £37,573 per annum (Regional salary), dependant on experience
Grade: 8
Reporting Office: London, Stratford or Manchester, Trafford
Persona: Agile Worker: 20% - 40% of contractual hours to be worked from reporting office/working location (hybrid working)

L&Q is one of the UK’s largest housing associations and providers of social and affordable homes. We house around 250,000 people primarily across Greater London and Greater Manchester. Our purpose is simple – to provide social homes and landlord services that everyone can be proud of.
We’re looking for a Health & Safety Advisor - Operations to join our experienced Corporate Health & Safety team. This role will focus on providing competent health and safety advice, guidance and assurance across operational activities, supporting compliance with health and safety legislation, L&Q procedures and internal health and safety management requirements.

As part of the second line of defence, Corporate Health & Safety plays a key role in supporting effective risk management, operational assurance, audit activity, compliance monitoring and the promotion of consistent safety standards across L&Q.

Your impact in the role:
In this role, you’ll work closely with operational teams, managers and colleagues across L&Q to support the safe delivery of services and day-to-day activities. You’ll provide practical health and safety advice, undertake assurance activity and help identify, escalate and support the resolution of risks, incidents and areas for improvement across a varied operational environment.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing competent health and safety advice, guidance and support to operational managers and teams
- Supporting compliance with health and safety legislation, L&Q policies, procedures and internal management system requirements
- Undertaking audits, inspections and assurance activity to monitor health and safety performance across operational areas
- Supporting incident reporting, investigation, learning and trend analysis through L&Q’s internal systems
- Helping operational teams identify risks, agree proportionate corrective actions and track these through to completion
- Supporting the development and review of health and safety processes, templates, records and assurance evidence
- Promoting a positive safety culture through effective communication, collaboration and practical support

What you'll bring:
- A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, or equivalent relevant health and safety qualification
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, operational risk management and practical application of health and safety management systems
- Demonstrable experience supporting health and safety across operational, maintenance, property services or multi-site environments
- The ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice to managers and teams, supporting safe working practices and proportionate risk control
- Strong prioritisation and coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Good competency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint, to support reporting, communication and assurance activity
- A full UK driving licence
- A CSCS card would be desirable where relevant to the operational areas supported
