Circa £50,000 Depending on skills and experience per annum + Car Allowance

Full time/37 hrs a week/permanent

Location: Can be based at one of our sites in either Lincoln, Grantham, Huntingdon, Norfolk, Peterborough or Cambridge

As a result of our continued growth, we are expanding our Safety Team and are looking for additional Safety Advisor to support the business with the role available based in Lincoln, Grantham, Huntingdon, Norfolk, Peterborough or Cambridge

In this role, you will provide professional and authoritative safety services, offering specialist advice across all areas of safety focussing on capital delivery and contractor engagement. Your expertise will be essential in enabling our managers, employees, and partner contractors to adhere to Anglian Water’s comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and practices.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support Capital Delivery teams to ensure all construction activities, including civil engineering works, are planned and delivered safely and in compliance with statutory and organisational health and safety requirements.
  • Provide proactive health and safety leadership across Delivery Route construction teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety performance in the construction activities across Anglian Water and Partner Contractors.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through visible presence, coaching, and engagement.
  • Partner with Delivery Route Teams to ensure works are planned and delivered safely, compliantly, and in line with CDM and company standards.
  • Identify, assess, and influence control of health and safety risks associated with complex and high‑risk construction activities.
  • Deliver assurance through inspections, audits, and contractor engagement, driving continuous improvement in safety outcomes.
  • Provide appropriate expert, timely (reactive and proactive), cost effective and practicable advice and guidance to managers and employees on safety matters in order to comply with legal and moral health and safety standards.
  • Support and influence front line managers & staff to ensure that they understand and adhere to appropriate practices consistent with current legislation and industry best practice.
  • Resolve enquiries received from customers (both internal and external) and respond as necessary.
  • Provide appropriate and targeted support on procedures and guidance to managers and employees.
  • Work with other safety professionals to ensure a consistent approach to safety and share best practice across the business.
  • Review business unit performance and provide support and direction to identify areas requiring development and improvement.
  • Carry out detailed investigations and report on significant accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with partner contractors to develop initiatives and common standards to raise H&S performance.

What does it take to be successful?

  • Proven experience enforcing and improving safety standards within a construction, civil engineering or maintenance environment.
  • Strong practical understanding of CDM Regulations, with the ability to drive compliance and improve safety outcomes.
  • Proven expertise in providing H&S oversight on large scale capital projects and ongoing site maintenance operations.
  • Exceptional capability in supporting contractor management systems, risk mitigation strategies (including CDM compliance / High-Risk Work Activities), and fostering a collaborative Safety culture across multidisciplinary contractor workforces.
  • Full UK Driving Licence due to the regular travel across the region
  • Applicants must live within the Anglian Water Region due to the nature of the role and the travel required. This ensures timely access to our sites and effective collaboration with our team
  • Ideally NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (or having embarked on/part way through the course)
  • Member of IOSH (Tech IOSH/MIOSH or Grad IOSH)
  • NEBOSH Certificate as a minimum
  • Flexible in responding to customer needs and safety team demands
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
