Health & Safety Advisor
Groundworks & Civil Engineering | Dumfries & Carlisle Region
Are you an experienced Health & Safety professional looking to join a successful, well-established contractor where you can have a genuine influence on how projects are delivered? Our client is a respected, family-owned groundworks and civil engineering contractor based in Lockerbie. With a strong pipeline of work across Dumfries & Galloway and the Carlisle area, they are looking to appoint a Health & Safety Advisor to support their operational teams and maintain the high standards expected across their sites.
Your new role
Working closely with site and senior management teams, you will take responsibility for promoting a positive and practical approach to health and safety across a range of groundworks and civil engineering projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out regular site inspections, audits and safety reviews
- Supporting Site Managers and operational teams with H&S compliance
- Reviewing and assisting with RAMS and safe systems of work
- Delivering toolbox talks, inductions and ongoing safety awareness
- Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
- Ensuring company procedures and relevant H&S legislation are consistently followed
- Helping drive a positive, proactive safety culture across the business

What you'll need to succeed
You will ideally have previous Health & Safety experience within groundworks, civil engineering, construction or a similar contracting environment. A NEBOSH qualification or equivalent would be highly desirable, along with the confidence to engage effectively with site teams, management and clients. Just as importantly, you'll be a practical and approachable H&S professional who understands the realities of working on live construction sites and can build strong relationships with operational teams.

Our client are open to someone seeking to work part-time (3 or 4 days) if that suits.
