Health & Safety Advisor - Childcare / Education Sector

Salary: From £43k + £4000 Car Allowance + Mileage
Job Type: Fixed Term Contract – Maternity Cover for up to 12 months, Full-time
Hours: 37.5 per week / Monday-Friday
Location: Field Based Role – Travel required to the nurseries and meetings in your divisional location Central and London Division (Covering our Nurseries in London and South London - Our HO is in Northampton)

Purpose of the Role

Support the business in maintaining high standards of health, safety, and compliance across nurseries and support functions.

  • Conduct audits, investigations, and risk assessments to help keep colleagues, children, and families safe.
  • Provide expert advice, guidance, coaching, and training to managers and teams on health and safety best practice.
  • Partner with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and promote a strong safety culture across the organisation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Act as the main health and safety contact for a designated division, providing advice, guidance, and support.
  • Conduct audits, investigations, and compliance visits to nurseries and support offices. Support risk assessments, healthcare plans, fire safety compliance, and DSE assessments.
  • Deliver health and safety coaching, training, and guidance to managers and colleagues.
  • Monitor trends, identify risks, and drive continuous improvement across the business.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to promote a positive safety culture.
  • Support the Head of Health & Safety with projects and initiatives that strengthen compliance and risk management.

Essential / Desired Experience

  • Experience in a Health & Safety role, ideally as a Health & Safety Advisor (Essential)
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessments, fire safety, RIDDOR, DSE, COSHH, and safe systems of work (Essential)
  • Able to work independently, manage priorities, and drive best practice (Essential)
  • Experience within the childcare/education sector (Desirable)
  • Experience supporting multiple sites/locations (Desirable)
  • Health & Safety training, coaching, or train-the-trainer experience (Desirable)

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (Essential)
  • GRAD IOSH or working towards (Desirable)
  • Level 2 Food Safety Hygiene (Desirable)
  • Fire Safety experience (Desirable)
  • DSE Assessor (Desirable)
  • Full clean driving licence
