Location: Remote, would ideally suit a candidate based in the Oxfordshire area

Reports to: Head of Health & Safety

Salary: £45,000 per annum

What you will be doing

You will work with a portfolio of clients across various sectors, providing both operational and strategic health & safety support.

Service delivery and client portfolio

  • Personally manage a portfolio of clients through phone, email and onsite/virtual meeting support as required
  • Ensure advice, documentation and support are delivered to a consistently high standard
  • Deliver hands-on health & safety consultancy in line with client expectations, UK legislation, guidance and good industry practice
  • Ensure your consultancy delivery is aligned with Impact HR’s central tools, systems and operational frameworks

Your day to day will include:

Health & Safety Consultancy

  • Provide competent, pragmatic and practicable health & safety advice and support to clients across a range of sectors
  • Support clients to develop proportionate health & safety arrangements that reflect the size, nature and risk profile of their organisation
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business owners, managers and leadership teams on a day-to-day and strategic health & safety matters
  • Keep clients informed of relevant changes to health & safety legislation, guidance and best practice

Health & Safety Audits

  • Conduct health & safety audits, workplace inspections and compliance reviews at client premises
  • Produce clear, concise reports identifying areas of good practice, non-compliance and opportunities for improvement
  • Develop practical, prioritised recommendations and support clients with their implementation
  • Monitor progress against agreed actions and provide ongoing advice where required

Risk Assessment

  • Develop and review suitable and sufficient risk assessments covering a wide range of workplace activities and hazards
  • Support clients to develop practical control measures that reduce risk whilst recognising their operational requirements
  • Review existing risk assessments and provide advice on improvements where required
  • Support clients to establish effective arrangements for the ongoing review of risk assessments

Policies & Management Systems

  • Develop, review and update health & safety policies, procedures and supporting documentation
  • Support clients to establish proportionate health & safety management arrangements
  • Assist clients with the implementation and ongoing development of their health & safety management systems
  • Ensure documentation reflects relevant legislation, guidance and recognised best practice

Accidents & Incidents

  • Support clients with accident, incident and near-miss investigations
  • Identify immediate, underlying and root causes and develop proportionate recommendations to prevent recurrence
  • Provide advice on statutory reporting requirements, including RIDDOR
  • Support clients in developing effective accident reporting and investigation arrangements

Construction & CDM

  • Provide practical advice to clients on their duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Support Clients, Principal Designers, Principal Contractors and Contractors in understanding and fulfilling their duties
  • Review and develop construction phase plans, pre-construction information, risk assessments and method statements
  • Undertake construction site audits and provide practical advice on construction health & safety matters

Fire Safety

  • Provide advice and support on workplace fire safety arrangements
  • Review fire safety procedures, emergency arrangements and associated documentation
  • Support clients in addressing recommendations arising from fire risk assessments
  • Provide practical advice on fire prevention, evacuation and emergency arrangements

COSHH, Manual Handling & Workplace Risks

  • Support clients with the assessment and control of hazardous substances, including the development and review of COSHH assessments
  • Undertake and review manual handling and ergonomic assessments
  • Provide advice on work at height, workplace transport, machinery, electrical safety, PPE and other common workplace hazards
  • Develop proportionate control measures that are practical and appropriate to the client’s operations

Training & development

  • Design and deliver engaging health & safety training, briefings and toolbox talks for clients
  • Deliver training to managers, supervisors and employees on relevant health & safety topics
  • Support clients to identify health & safety training and competency requirements
  • Develop bespoke training solutions based on client needs and workplace risks

Other project work

From developing safe systems of work and reviewing contractor arrangements to supporting new premises, workplace changes and specific health & safety projects, you will handle a wide range of project-based and ongoing health & safety matters for our client base

  • Represent Impact HR at networking events and within your local business community
  • Build strong relationships and deliver a consistently excellent service to help you identify opportunities to grow client accounts or introduce new services
  • Support the development of Impact HR’s health & safety services and resources

Any other duties as required


What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)

  • You have built trust with a core portfolio of clients and become their go-to Health & Safety Consultant
  • You have provided clients with clear, pragmatic and commercially aware advice that helps them manage health & safety effectively
  • You have developed high-quality policies, risk assessments, procedures and other health & safety documentation
  • You have supported clients to implement recommendations and achieve measurable improvements in their health & safety arrangements
  • You have contributed to the development of internal consultancy processes and shared knowledge with your peers

About You

You are a skilled health & safety professional, confident communicator, natural relationship builder and commercially aware consultant. You are comfortable working autonomously within a wider team and enjoy variety in your work. You are equally comfortable providing advice to senior leaders, managers and employees and are able to travel for client site visits as required.

You will likely bring:

  • Significant practical health & safety experience, ideally within consultancy or a multi-site environment
  • Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate level or equivalent
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, such as minimum TechIOSH level or equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation, guidance and best practice
  • Experience of undertaking health & safety audits, inspections and risk assessments
  • Experience of developing policies, procedures, risk assessments and other health & safety documentation
  • Strong consulting, influencing and coaching skills
  • Confidence in communicating health & safety requirements in a clear, pragmatic and proportionate way
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent planning, prioritising and time management skills
  • Proficiency with MS 365
  • A solutions-focused, commercially aware mindset
  • Application of data protection and confidentiality
