Health & Safety Manager – Hinkley Point Operational Service Centre

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join Crown House Technologies and support our Operational Service Centre at Hinkley Point.

Crown House Technologies is the specialist MEP delivery business within Laing O'Rourke, providing mechanical, electrical and public health engineering solutions across some of the UK's largest and most technically complex projects.

Our Operational Service Centre at Hinkley Point plays an important role in supporting the delivery of our operations, bringing together our people, processes and technical expertise within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment.

As our Health & Safety Manager, you will take a leading role in promoting and maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing across the Operational Service Centre.

Working closely with the operational leadership team, you will provide expert advice, challenge and support, ensuring health and safety is embedded into everything we do. You will help create an environment where our people feel confident to speak up, challenge unsafe practices and continually look for ways to improve.

What will the role look like?

As Health & Safety Manager, you will provide visible leadership across the Operational Service Centre and work collaboratively with operational teams, management, employees and wider project stakeholders.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Providing professional health and safety leadership, advice and support to the Operational Service Centre.
  • Working closely with operational leadership to develop and maintain a positive, proactive safety culture.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, company standards, procedures and project-specific requirements.
  • Supporting the development, implementation and continual improvement of health and safety plans, processes and procedures.
  • Undertaking regular inspections, audits and assurance activities, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring actions are effectively closed out.
  • Supporting teams with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Leading and supporting incident and near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and ensuring lessons learned are communicated and embedded.
  • Monitoring health and safety performance, trends and leading indicators and providing clear reporting to the leadership team.
  • Coaching and supporting managers and supervisors to strengthen health and safety capability across the operation.
  • Engaging with employees to encourage participation, behavioural change and continuous improvement.
  • Supporting health, wellbeing and occupational health initiatives.
  • Liaising effectively with client representatives, project teams and other key stakeholders.
  • Sharing best practice and lessons learned across Crown House Technologies and the wider Laing O'Rourke business.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of health and safety briefings, training and awareness initiatives.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with the ability to engage, influence and build trusted relationships across an operational environment.

You Will Ideally Have

  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager, Senior Health & Safety Advisor or similar role.
  • Experience within construction, engineering, MEP, manufacturing, nuclear, infrastructure or another highly regulated operational environment.
  • A strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent relevant health and safety qualification.
  • Membership of IOSH at an appropriate professional level.
  • Experience undertaking audits, inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • The ability to coach and support operational teams while providing appropriate challenge when required.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to improving health and safety performance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends and translate findings into practical improvements.
  • Experience within a nuclear or similarly regulated environment would be advantageous.
