Role: Health & Safety Manager
Location: London - Hybrid
Salary: £55,000–£65,000 + car allowance + bonus
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety professional to join a growing utilities business operating across electricity and water infrastructure.
This is a broad, business-wide position with responsibility for helping shape and develop the organisation’s approach to health, safety, compliance and governance. Rather than being a purely site-based H&S role, you will work across operational, technical and corporate functions, supporting the continued development of policies, processes and management systems as the business grows.
The position would suit someone with experience within electricity distribution, DNO/IDNO, ICP, power infrastructure or a closely related utilities environment who is ready to take greater ownership of the H&S and compliance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Define, develop and implement the company’s health & safety strategy.
- Promote a proactive safety culture across all levels of the organisation.
- Maintain and continuously improve the Integrated Management System, supporting compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits and ISO assessments.
- Conduct site inspections, audits and risk assessments across operational and electrical infrastructure environments.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Develop and maintain health & safety policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Monitor H&S and compliance performance, producing appropriate KPI and management reporting.
- Deliver health & safety training, inductions and briefings to employees and contractors.
- Support safe office working practices, including DSE assessments and other workplace health requirements.
- Monitor changes to relevant legislation and industry requirements and advise the wider business on their implications.
- Support compliance across electricity network activities, including relevant HSE, ESQCR and wider regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate compliance, certification and audit records.
- Identify operational and organisational risks and support the development of appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to business continuity and emergency planning.
- Work closely with senior leadership and teams across operations, delivery, engineering and design to drive continuous improvement.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Minimum five years’ experience within health & safety, HSEQ, SHEQ or HSQE.
- NEBOSH National General Certificate, NVQ Level 6 or equivalent health & safety qualification.
- Experience within utilities, electricity distribution, power infrastructure or a similarly regulated environment.
- Strong working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation.
- Experience supporting or maintaining ISO management systems.
- Experience with audits, investigations, risk assessments and corrective actions.
- Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of H&S and compliance activities.

Highly desirable:
- Previous experience within a DNO, IDNO, ICP or UK electricity distribution framework.
- Experience of NERS requirements or accredited electrical infrastructure works.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Understanding of ESQCR, Ofgem requirements and electricity network regulation.
- CMIOSH status or currently working towards Chartered status.
- CDM experience.
- HAZOP awareness and/or Six Sigma experience.

- £55,000–£65,000 basic salary
